Türkiye's Black Sea region stretches from historic towns on the western coast to the forested mountains, deep valleys, and highland villages of the east. Our Black Sea Türkiye tours combine nature, history and local culture through destinations such as Safranbolu, Amasra, Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize and Artvin.
In the Western Black Sea, Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its well-preserved Ottoman townscape and traditional houses. Nearby Amasra and Sinop add historic harbours and coastal scenery, while Ordu and Giresun introduce travellers to the landscapes and traditions of the central Black Sea coast.
Around Trabzon, Sümela Monastery, dramatically located above the Altındere Valley, is one of the region's major cultural landmarks and is included on Türkiye's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Uzungöl and Gümüşhane, with its mountain scenery and Karaca Cave, can also be included on regional routes.
Further east, the journey continues through Rize's tea-growing country and Çeçeva Tea Gardens toward Fırtına Valley, Ayder and the Black Sea highlands. Walking, rafting and zipline activities can be included depending on the itinerary. In Artvin, Borçka Karagöl and Yusufeli reveal another landscape of forests, lakes, high mountains and river valleys.
The yaylas, or highland pastures, are also part of the Black Sea's living culture. For generations, local communities have moved seasonally between villages and mountain pastures with their livestock, creating a distinctive highland way of life that still exists in parts of the region. Traditional villages, wooden houses, local markets, Horon dance and kemençe music add another dimension to the journey.
Food is equally connected to the landscape. Muhlama or kuymak, prepared with local cheese, butter and corn flour, is one of the region's best-known dishes, alongside hamsi (Black Sea anchovies), cornbread, karalahana dishes, Akçaabat meatballs, Samsun pide and Hamsiköy rice pudding. Tea plantations around Rize and hazelnut-growing areas around Ordu and Giresun also reflect the close relationship between agriculture, cuisine and daily life along the Black Sea coast.
